Renner launches a more sustainable store model in the state of São Paulo

Renner was the first Brazilian retail brand to launch a store based on eco-efficiency and maximum reduction of environmental impacts. From construction to operation, the circular store model uses concepts such as reuse, proper disposal of materials at the end of their useful life cycle, less waste generation and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, water savings, use of renewable energies and lower energy consumption, installation of integrated and more efficient equipment and green spaces with natural elements.

Renner’s first two circular stores were inaugurated in the city of Rio de Janeiro (RJ) in October 2021 and March 2022, respectively, in the Rio Sul and ParkJacarepaguá malls. At the end of 2022, the brand inaugurated two more units built in this new model: one on the coast of the state of São Paulo, in São Vicente, and another in the city of Petrópolis (Pátio Petrópolis mall), in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The points of sale incorporate the best practices of sustainability and circularity combined with new omnichannel solutions to offer customers even more enchanting shopping experiences.

The stores reinforce Renner’s role as an agent for transforming Brazilian retail by offering customers more conscious consumption options. The strategy of replicating the model for its other stores is already in place: from 2023 onwards, all new units of the brand will incorporate the premises of circularity as part of the process of continuous evolution of its store network.

The techniques employed in the new 2022 units, combined with the training of material and service suppliers in relation to more efficient processes and technologies in all stages of the works, allowed the generation of waste in each of them to be, on average, 34% lower than in conventional construction, with at least 75% of the volumes produced being sent for reuse. The more efficient consumption of low-impact renewable energy and the 43% lighter circular furniture – which allowed a 95% reduction in the use of MDF and plaster on the facades and a 49% reduction in the total use of glazing – provide a reduction in potential of global warming (GWP) due to the emission of greenhouse gases in the two projects.

The stores also have information on the most powerful raw materials used to make Renner’s clothes, as well as two Ecoestilo collectors, which is the brand’s reverse logistics program, and Repassa. At Ecoestilo, it is possible to dispose perfume bottles and unused clothes for proper disposal, and Repassa is the online resale platform for clothes, shoes and accessories.

In addition to all this, the circular stores are already operating with levels of eco-efficiency that guarantee them two of the most important certifications for ecological projects in the world! The Rio Sul shopping unit won the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) seal at the “Gold” level, while the ParkJacarepaguá shopping center was the first development in Brazil to obtain the BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) certificate for the project execution, with an “Excellent” classification.
