Youcom adopts a more sustainable zipper in its denim line

Youcom, a young fashion brand with an urban lifestyle, has just incorporated a more sustainable zipper into its denim pieces, produced in Brazil. Developed in partnership with YKK, the world’s largest zipper manufacturer, the product combines social responsibility, high technical performance, and overcomes the cost barrier that had previously limited its large-scale implementation.

The Silver Matte NATULON® zipper is free from restricted substances and uses recycled tape made from PET bottles. This composition promotes the reuse of plastic waste, reduces the demand for virgin raw materials, and contributes to lowering environmental disposal. The solution delivers durability, quality, and functionality, while eliminating one of the most harmful metals in the fashion supply chain.

After three years dedicated to research and development, the more sustainable zipper is now present in Youcom’s denim pants, skirts, and shorts. The initiative aligns with the brand’s commitment to sustainability, reflected in projects such as Jeans for Change, created in 2014 with the purpose of re-signifying used denim pieces by transforming them into new products.

An initiative by Lojas Renner S.A.

The Silver Matte NATULON® sustainable zipper was developed by YKK at the request of Lojas Renner S.A., in response to the company’s commitment to eliminate all restricted substances from its products by 2030. As a brand leading sustainability innovations within the ecosystem, Youcom reaffirms its role as a laboratory for testing new solutions.

“Sustainability is one of the company’s strategic pillars, and initiatives like this reflect our commitment to transforming the fashion supply chain through responsible innovation. Youcom’s adoption of this type of zipper represents an important step forward in replacing inputs with lower environmental impact alternatives,” highlights Eduardo Ferlauto, Sustainability Director at Lojas Renner S.A.
